Information we process
- Story prompts and choices — the details you enter to create a story (such as a character name, theme, art style, length, and genre). These are sent to our AI providers to generate the result.
- Optional Apple sign-in — if you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier Apple provides so we can give you bonus stories and premium features. You can use the app without signing in.
- Diagnostics and usage — we use Google Firebase for crash reporting and analytics to find bugs and understand how features are used.
- Your stories — generated stories are saved to your own iCloud (CloudKit) under your Apple ID, so they sync across your devices. They are not stored on a Firmin Labs server.
AI providers (sub-processors)
To generate stories we share your prompts with:
- Anthropic — generates the story text.
- OpenAI — generates the illustrations.
These providers process the prompts to return a result. We share only what's needed to create the story.
How we use information
To create your stories, deliver read-along audio, sync your library to your iCloud, keep the app stable, and provide optional account features. We do not use your information for advertising.
Children's privacy
Once Upon AI is designed for families to use together. A parent or guardian sets up and supervises story creation. We do not knowingly build advertising profiles of children.
Your choices and rights
You can use the app without an account, delete stories in the app (removing them from your iCloud), and contact us to ask what we hold or to request deletion. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under GDPR (EU/UK) or the CCPA/CPRA (California), including access, correction, and deletion. We honor these requests — email us.
Data retention
Your stories remain in your iCloud until you delete them. Prompts sent to AI providers are handled under those providers' policies. Diagnostic data is retained only as long as needed to keep the app working.
